End of America 2011?

Me 2
Yesterday, my mother sent me an email asking what I thought about the contents at a link. The link, titled "end of america 2011" (no, I'm not re-linking it) led to a site that immediately started playing a video. Not wanting to watch the video, I decided to figure out who was putting it on.

It turns out that the video, all 77(!) minutes of it, is the work of one Porter Stansberry. The first thing you need to know about Stansberry is that the SEC recently fined him $1.5 million for securities fraud. The guy could make change for a nine-dollar bill with threes (bonus points for you if you know what movie that's from) and if he tells you anything more controversial than the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, double-check him.

So, according to this guy, if you actually watch all 77(!) minutes of Stansberry's magnum opus, you get:

1) A triple dose of fear-mongering, scare tactics and "must act now" hype.
2) Advice to buy gold. (Stansberry knows a good company to work with.)
3) Advice to buy silver (see #2)
4) Advice to stash your cash overseas - Stansberry will sell you a tip sheet on where and how.
5) A special offer to buy his $100/issue newsletter at the low-low price of $50/issue.

Hey, guys, those SEC fines don't pay themselves!

Said it before, saying it again, there is nothing like the right wing conservative view point to enable you to hold multiple contradictory belief systems simultaneously.

I was thinking of finding a collection of Rand Simberg's predictions on oil prices about how it was over priced at $78 and would come down to a more sensible level... except... I can't be arsed to keep shooting the fish in that particular barrel.

I see his current problem is how the gov'mit killed his daddy.

It does seem to be a persistent thread of libertarian thought how that, were it but for the government, the thinker would be richer and/or better looking...

:)

Although the bit that cracks me up about that particular thread is how, for a group of people focused on self discipline and self reliance - it's really not about what they eat or what amount they eat etc... - it's entirely chemical or bad advice from the government...

I'm man enough to say that I'm currently overweight because I like beer WAYYYY too much and that when I lose weight, which I've been doing, it's because I cut my calorific intake and increase my levels of aerobic exercise.

Gosh. Who'd have thought it eh?

food, prescription drugs, water ect
as a person who is living in a state with a governer that does not care about anyone but himself I agree and we need to take care of ourselves, food, prescription drugs, water and love for our fellow man.

Small arms and a large quantity of ammunition wouldn't hurt either (just in case your love for your fellow man isn't reciprocal).

Conservative right wing
Let's get off the Conservative right wing rant. I am Conservative and I am NOT a nut job. If you actually would research what we stand for you'd be doing yourself and us a favor. To spout off the way you are, you show your ignorance and how uninformed you are.
What's more, I'd suggest you find someone who actually does tax returns and have them show you exactly how the "redistribution of wealth" really works.
I'm not saying I agree with what the video shows but start doing some reading and keep an open mind.

Re: Conservative right wing
We're actually very well informed about the specific conservative in question, as we are regular readers of his blog.

O'Neill's started up several companies, and I'm in private business at a high tax bracket. We're aware of "redistribution."

Re: Conservative right wing
And I used to be in the British 40% bracket and if I still lived there on ,y old income I'd be paying 50% on some of my income too.

As somebody said on Real Time the other day, the problem with America is you want Swedish style government services without actually paying for them. The other problem is that most people don't seem to understand the price of most services so that even if they paid zero tax, they still couldn't afford healthcare or retirement.

Everybody talks about "Americas' problem" but they sure as hell want to live here.I know for a fact we've bailed out several countries Numerous times and send billions(trillions) in aid only to be spat upon. The one thing I agree with Ron Paul on is to cease 99% of foreign aid and take care of ourselves for a change.

Re: Conservative right wing
As Chris pointed out I run my own company and have done in the UK and US and youm kw what? In socialist England it's much easier to be a small business owner. The healthcare service being part of general taxation alone makes it easier...

Re: Conservative right wing
Then why did you open a business in the US if it's so much easier? People are so hypocritical it cracks me up. Out of one side of your mouth you talk about how mature and educated you are compared to Republicans, and out of the other side of your mouth you stoop to much lower levels. What I love most about American politics is that the people who want the most are willing to do the least for it. All that matters is that you have enough friends to vote away other ppl's private property.

Re: Conservative right wing
I've replied on my own live journal. Tl:dr version. I was living in the US when the opportunity for the business happened, it wouldn't have been practical to relocate at the time.

Also, I don't these words mean what you think they do.

Re: Conservative right wing
Oh yeah, and you need to look up the definition for hypocrit. It's not somebody advocating something they agree with and are prepared to pay for themselves. OTOH a person who wants to benefit from something without having to pay for it certainly is one,

Re: Conservative right wing
Oh and finally, when I say prepared to pay for, I mean it. I don't, for example, have an issue with my taxes paying for schools when I don't actually have kids... Schools mean I have employees who I can hire. Just like single payer healthcare would save me a fucking fortune on the bottom line.

I'm a capitalist btw... I want what maximises MY profits.

Movie answer
The quote was from "The Eiger Sanction" by George Kennedy's character talking about Miles Mellough, brilliantly played by the late Jack Cassidy.

So, the SEC crooks (formerly Wall Street crooks, they change jobs with each other every few years)fines this cat. OK.

Not interested in another neo-con fascist pulling a Madoff. BTW, where was the SEC while Bernie was prepping himself for Club Fed?

Regarding Madoff, read the book "No One Would Listen" by Markopolis.

*Sigh*
I keep seeing the commercial for this and thought I'd check it out. Ended up here instead. Not sure if this guy Porter is a Conservative, or a Libertarian. Don't really care and not sure what that has to do with anything, people from all sides of politics can be scammers.

One thing sorta unrelated I would like to point out though, the person above who used the term "neo-con fascist" needs to read a little history. "neo-conservatives" or conservatism in general, or even republicans, by political definition, are not fascists. Fascism is a political philosophy of the left. I know it's not related to this post, but I see that all the time on the interwebs and it's just flat-out untrue. If you want to insult people of certain political persuasions, at least have your facts right, otherwise you end up looking like a fool.

Re: *Sigh*
Fascism is a right-wing political philosophy. Mussolini (the intellectual father of the movement) billed his movement as the right-wing answer to Communism. He was supported by the Italian aristocracy and conservatives. Ditto Hitler - although Hitler considered Mussolini his superior, which was why the two countries, who had fought each other in WWI, were allies in WWII.

American conservatism harkens back to what was a radical leftist idea at the time - democracy.

Re: *Sigh*
Extremes are the right and left are fascist. I am sick of them both. It's the dull minded people who fall for their crap and join sides when in the end they both want to take away our constitutional rights and our freedom. It's not left or right...it's indivuals and groups that are power hungry and find sheep to follow them- we see it everyday.

Fascism is a specific political philosophy with specific implications, just like communism or democracy.

Now, if you replace "fascist" with "totalitarian" in your post I would agree with you.

Re: *Sigh*
I get a bit cranky when some anonymous person on the Internet comes on my blog and tells me to get my facts straight. Especially when it's clear that the anonymous person is using Jonah Goldberg's pile of crap "Liberal Fascism" as his authority.

Mussolini, the founder and man who named fascism, deliberately, explicitly and publicly rejected socialism. He harkened back to the Roman Empire ("facsia" AKA a bunch of sticks, was the symbol of the Emperor).

Fascinating, I've been getting nasty-o-grams telling me that Mr Stansberry is left wing liberal socialist...

I'm impressed that somebody can say this about somebody who doesn't appear to have any accurate information about him anywhere on line, except in relation to his securities bust and his use of the phrase "Komrade Obama" in relation to the current president.

Doesn't sound very left wing, socialist nor liberal to me...

Thanks Chris!
I watched about three quarters of the Porter Stansberry's video, and finally got to the point I couldn't take anymore. I only watched it because it was advertised on Bloomberg TV. I appreciate the time you took to investigate this, and put it out for others to see.

Thanks Chris,

Buying gold for security
This scare tactic will not work for those that are caught up on Biblical facts. All the commercials saying easy to buy and easy to sell, if so why are they spending all that money for commercials to sell it? If you have gold the government will take it away and it will be worthless! Grady

End of America in 2011
Oh my God, who gives a damn if the distributor of this crap is left or right. Wake up and realize there is a concerted effort to end our rather successful way of life by essentially two groups the Muslims and the Communist, call them Socialists if you so desire. Either you are for the continuation of a free enterprise republic or some form of socialist democracy as in Europe or you want a World of the other two. Really, I can't wait for the success of either one of those, but maybe that's your cup of tea, so to speak 'yuk'. Anyway, those two utopias, if they succeed to win out, will eventually be at each others throat, for can you see either one dividing up the World equally. But if you are a poor diluted Christian you believe Christ will come riding in on a white horse with his army of multi million of angels.
That "fairy tale" sounds better to me every day amigo......

why?
I saw the ad for this movie on TV and my first thought was..."why would someone put this out there and let us watch it free?" The answer is, of course, someone is going to make money somehow. They spent a lot of money to put the ads on TV feeling sure it would be worth it.

To me, its obvious it is a scam from just that fact.
Curious, I wanted to know what the scam was without putting the link on my machine and clicking it.
Thanks to this site, I now know it's goig to tell me to buy gold and invest overseas. My next common sence thought tells me that if everyone moves their money overseas it helps to end America.
I am no rocket scientist, and I do not care what political party the guy is from, or even how you define that party. Its just a really long advertizement to convince people to invest in something he will make money from.
Thanks for sites like this.

Redefine liberal and conservative...get it right "oopps" correct not right. Sorry
liberals and conservatives were once defined by the level of economics the gravitated toward. Liberals felt that the hard working person at the front line of economics, "blue collar" guy is first and formost. The Conservative was concerned with top end "Ceo". Simply because they were responsible for the well being of the many workers employed by their respective companies. Today economics has been removed from the equation and replaced by special interest in Goverment Control to nourish the less motivated socio-eco contributor...by reducing and removing the strength of the successful...

Some people don't have the brains of a shoe horn
I watched the video and not once was I brain washed by this guy. It is all simple economics and I understand simple. I hope many of the shoe horn brains people do nothing so some of us will survive the economic melt down in this country. He is not a prophet, he is only warning you (us) what is about to happen to our economy. OK folks sit there and do nothing the choice is yours. Oh, I found out that you can no longer wire money to Germany over 5,000 dollars......hhhhmmmm, I wonder why? Just several months ago you could wire over 9,999 dollars without the governments knowledge and now all of a sudden why the big change? Wake up, you need not buy anything from this guy, just listen and be prepared.
