Link Salad

Various quick links in lieu of real content:

First, you all have heard of the extravagant "riders" rock musicians put on their contracts - things like "no green M & M candies in the suite" and the like. Well, according to these folks, the rider got started as a test of reading comprehension.

Two items smurched from Making Light:

- For my Mom (and I love you) How to be the local computer expert

- In WWI, the Czech nation was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Czechs were not happy about that, especially since they kept getting drafted into the Imperial army. Well, in one of the few good ideas to come out of Czarist Russia, a legion of Czech POWs was created to fight Austria, with a promise of Czech freedom. When Russia abruptly left the war, the Czech legion fought their way to Vladivostock and helped create an independent Czechoslovakia.

Via email, I get Space Dog, The Final Frontier or Animal Cruelty, You Decide.

From various sources, including one Not Safe For Work, I get reminded of Five Geek Social Fallacies

Lastly, today is Free Book Friday over on my review blog POD People. We're giving away the great SF anthology Triangulation: Dark Glass.
