Capricon Schedule and Other Thoughts

Well, I was going to post a political rant today, but I decided to spare my readership. Although, if you're looking for a good political post, Jim Wright has a wonderful one on the deification of Ronald Reagan. Jim and I both like Reagan, but we also recognize that he put his pants on one leg at a time. At any rate, I agree completely with Jim, so slip on over and read.

Thanks to Google alerts, I see that my sister is in the news again, sweeping the streets of Danville to find and help the homeless. As I've said before, "support the troops" means more than buying a yellow bumper sticker.

Finally, my programming schedule for Capricon, hot off the emails:

Reanimation of the Zombies!
Friday, 02-11-2011 - 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm - Lake Michigan B
What's up with the boom in zombie literature and films? From World War Z to The Walking Dead, zombies are becoming the new hot paranormal creature. (But not sexy hot like vampires and werewolves. That would be gross. Wouldn't it?)

"Classic" SF - What Still Provides a Fresh "Sensawondah" Today?
Saturday, 02-12-2011 - 11:30 am to 1:00 pm - Birch B
Heinlein. Clarke. Bester. Sturgeon. What "classic" SF novels have held up over time and still pack that same "WOW!" punch?

Luddite Science Fiction
Sunday, 02-13-2011 - 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm - Birch A
Can science fiction be anti-technology, or does that make it a different genre?

Give James B my regards... if you haven't met him before he's a good live act.

I'm now assuming some kind of rule is being invoked that James and I can't be in the UK at the same time :)

I got an email over the weekend that James can't make the con due to personal issues.

Thanks for the shout out, Chris
